Radio Netherlands documentary about Felix Meritis

Chris Chambers made a radio documentary about the history of the Felix Meritis building. This programme was broadcasted on 22 March 2006. You can still listen to the documentary at the website of Radio Netherlands.

"The Felix Meritis building in Amsterdam has one of the most interesting and remarkable histories in the Netherlands. In the more than two centuries since it was built, it's been the centre of the Dutch enlightenment, the headquarters of the Communist party of the Netherlands and, in the 1960s and 70s, a world famous theatre.

Felix Meritis is an imposing building. Built in the neo-classical style, it stands proudly on the Keizersgracht, one of the grandest canals in Amsterdam. But its facade gives little indication of what lies inside and of a history that few other Dutch buildings can match. "
