Work Conference International Cultural Relations

Governments from all over the world use culture more and more as a means to distinguish themselves. There are hardly any other possibilities;  certainly not in the European Union where the homogeneity of the market is so successful that products from the Netherlands are often indistinguishable  from those produced by countries such as Slovenia, Italy or Portugal. This is in line with the growing consciousness that the future of the European process lays particularly in the cultural component of this process. Arts and culture need to be available  to all European citizens  to give them more insight in each other's characteristics and solutions.

This closed conference deals with the increasing discrepancy between the official international cultural policy in the Netherlands and the daily practice of many international operating initiatives, i.e. Felix Meritis. We will look back shortly, but will mainly focus on the international cultural policy of tomorrow. What do we expect from a serious international cultural policy in the Netherlands? What possibilities does the future offer? How can the Netherlands leave the beaten track and seize new opportunities?
