The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism
20th Globaliseringslezing by Naomi Klein
Naomi Klein did introduce her new book The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, in which she outlines the success of the ideas of the economist Friedman of the Chicago School of Economics. While travelling through Iraq and later the tsunami-affected area in Sri Lanka, she discovered that capitalist countries apply an extreme make-over to countries that have already been hit by various catastrophes. Klein explodes the myth that the global free market was created peacefully and democratically. Her claim is that the opposite is the case.
Naomi Klein is a journalist and author of the international bestseller No Logo, Taking Aim at the Brand Bullies, which has been translated into 27 languages and has sold more than a million copies. The New York Times called No Logo ‘the bible of a movement'.
