Mapping the Gülen Movement: A multidimensional approach
Conference from 09.00 - 17.30 hrs.
The transnational Gülen movement (Volunteers' Movement) has attracted worldwide attention in the last few years. The movement originated in connection with the ideas of the Islam scholar Fethullah Gülen.
During this conference international experts will analyze and discuss the message and practice of the movement, as well as its organisation and results. By focusing on several dimensions (theological, intellectual, financial, structural, political, gender and socio-cultural), this conference will contribute to the academic and critical analysis of this widely discussed movement.
Speakers include Helen Rose Ebaugh (University of Houston), Pim Valkenberg (Loyola University, Baltimore), Johan Leman (Catholic University Leuven/Louvain), Muhammed Çetin (Rumi Forum, Washington D.C.), Ihsan Yilmaz (Fatih University, Turkey), and Maria Curtis (University of Houston-Clear Lake). There will also be a performance by the stand-up comedian Bob McLaren.
