Café Europe "Pays-Bas: douze points!" - The protection of privacy in Europe

This autumn, during the French presidency of the Council of the European Union, four debates will take place in the Café Europe series under the name Pays-Bas: douze points!. All debates will be commented on by the Dutch cultural historian Thomas von der Dunk.

The subject of the first debate on 23 September will be the protection of privacy in Europe. This subject will be on the agenda of the European Parliament this autumn. The privacy of citizens is a hot topic in European circles. In the Netherlands we seem to just shrug our shoulders under the motto ‘who has nothing to hide, has nothing to fear'. Is there a cause for concern, or are members of the European Parliament making a fuss about nothing? In Café Europe Peter Hustinx (Supervisor European Data Protection) will debate with Alexander Pechtold (member of the Dutch Parliament).

The other cafés will take place on 14 October, 11 November and 9 December. The focus will be on the shortage of food in the world in relation to European agricultural policy, on Europe and the NATO, and on the financial situation in Europe.

Café Europe is an initiative of Vereniging Democratisch Europa and Felix Meritis and is part of the programme Dare2Connect.
